Cool Off at an Austin Popsicle Shop

Cool Off at an Austin Popsicle Shop

Did you know that over two billion popsicles are sold every year?

They originated in the early 1920s and were marketed as a frozen drink on a stick.

If you would like to enjoy a gourmet popsicle, visit one of these shops near our East Austin apartments:

Steel City Pops

When the Watkins family took a trip to Nashville, they discovered Mexican paletas. Better known as pops, these brightly colored, all-natural treats were unlike anything they had ever had. They never forgot the paletas, and nine years later, Jim opened Steel City Pops. His wife and sons worked behind the scenes, while his mom helped create the recipes. Flavors include banana pudding, blueberry basil, and vanilla bean.

Mom & Pops

Manuel and Laura Flores grew up on the U.S.-Mexico border where they enjoyed paletas. When they wanted to introduce the treat to their young children, they decided to make their own. Soon Mom & Pops was born, and the couple enjoys keeping Austin cool. They help the environment by recycling and composting everything that can't be turned into Popsicles. Flavors include cherry lime, pineapple and ginger, and mango chile.

Family owned and operated, Manolis is a food truck that's not to be missed. The husband and wife duo established the truck to bring the finest treats to Austin. They make the Popsicles in-house using fresh fruit and other quality ingredients. Manolis boasts a five-star rating on Yelp for its friendly service, free samples, and casual outdoor seating area. Popsicle flavors include guava, passion fruit, and strawberry lemon. Other menu offerings include almond cakes, tiramisu, and mint chocolate chip ice cream.
